The village of Morzine / Avoriaz is situated in the heart of the Chablais moutains, between the lower peaks of the Jura and the higher peaks of the Mont-Blanc range, near the Swiss border. By road, Morzine lies 25 miles from lake Geneva and 40 miles from Chamonix. The village nestles between two valleys : the vallon des Ardoisières (slate valley) and the vallée de la Manche. The Name Morzine is of Germanic origin, derived from Morgen or Rising sun.
